Revelation of Jesus Christ
From the KJV 1611 with Strong's Concordance

Speaking in tongues or talking babel?
Speaking in tongues
In chapter 2 of the book of Acts we read of the apostles receiving the gift of speaking in tongues on the day of Pentecost. This was so they could spread the gospel and magnify God to the people who were from other nations. The Jews and the Gentiles heard the gospel spoken of by the apostles in their own native language allowing the gospel message to be heard more clearly and to spread the message further abroad as instructed by Christ himself. It really is as simple as that.
- tongues G2920 glossa {gloce-sah} Of certain affinity; the tongue; by implication a language (specifically one naturally unacquired).
Spreading the Gospel
The gift was supernatural in the sense that if you or I was to learn a foreign language it would require a lot of time and effort to get up to a standard where you could speak another nations tongue fluently. The miraculous power of the Holy Spirit allowed the apostles to do this instantly thus spring boarding the gospel message to all the nations.
Talking babel
Today we see TV preachers, spiritualists and new age agents claiming to speak in tongues, however no one actually knows what they are communicating making the whole thing nothing more than a vain show, a cirus act and a mockery of the true meaning of the gift.
Testing the spirits
Would the Most High give one of his ambassadors to the kingdom the ability to speak a strange language just so no one could understand what they were saying? We are told to test the spirits to discern whether they be of God or of the adversary.
God is not the author of confusion but of peace.
